Those who share the most success in our work together want to work with a therapist who has experience in areas of foster care/adoption, gender-based violence, supremacy culture, or post-traumatic growth. As non-pathologizing providers, diagnoses will only be used when required and with collaboration. This is a space that names displacement, poverty, racism, carcerality, and surveillance as distressing rather than your human reaction as the problem. Our approach has a lens of neuroscience, humor, liberation and no BS. Being dedicated to your mental wealth means we will incorporate community, strengths, and capacity into your care, so you are more successful when releasing emotional and physical tensions. As providers with lived experience, we are willing to offer this, when appropriate, as a way to normalize the human experience and shift dynamics in hierarchical systems. It also means we know addressing trauma can get messy. Finding supportive resources will be part of our work together, because lived experience does not translate into being an expert on your situation or your only source of information.
